We appreciate all homeowners who have taken a proactive approach in utilizing Firewise techniques around their homes. As a homeowner you can upload the homeowner assessment checklist, to the right in the blogroll section, and see where your home and property currently rate. If you have any questions or concerns call the Fire Staff at the Stevensville Ranger District.
Open burning is allowed within Ravalli County but requires a burn permit after May 1st if you live in or near the forested areas in the valley. Burn permits are required by the State of Montana and are issued through the Stevensville, Darby, Sula, and West Fork Ranger Districts. On the day of the burn please call the Ravalli County Dispatch Office at 363-3033 to give the location of your burn.
It is important to monitor current and forecasted weather conditions, have appropriate personnel, water and tools available, burn when air quality is good and monitor fire activity till the fire is out.
For more information please contact a local fire staff at an office near you.
The photos and videos below are from spring prescribed burns in the Bitterroot Valley in 2010.

I have 10 forested acres in the area in question and am interested in participating in the project. I have attended the Forestry Stewardship Course and have been thinning my trees in an effort to be more proactive in the event there is a fire in this area. Please keep me abreast of your project and let me know if I can assist you. Thank you.

Butch,
Thank you for your interest in this project and for being a proactive homeowner. We are interested in knowing more about your thinning project – how you chose the treatment and how you feel about the final results. If you would like to share this information online please reply or we can meet with you in person for a scheduled site visit. Tanya – Project Leader
